Fake/insufficient Sleep modus

My 2020 MacBook Pro (macOS BigSur) breaks all expectations I have from a properly designed sleep mode:

  • power consumption is far from negligible; the battery drains by at 20-40% overnight, sigh
  • activity and network communications are not shut down at all; I still receive notification sounds from messenger services long after I put the MAC to "sleep". That really makes me very uncomfortable.

Is there no "real sleep" mode in a MACbook ? Any settings I can or need to change ?

And this also happens when no USB devices are connected (see related discussions in this forum).

Thanks!

Turn off Power nap and related get-work-done-while sleeping settings

disable wake on network access

disable file sharing

connect your power adapter when you Mac is stationary -- your Mac uses smart charging and will NEVER over-charge.

Thanks a lot !

The only active option (from the ones you suggested) was:

"Enable power nap while plugged into power adapter" (I would have never interpreted this one correctly!)

I disabled it and will now monitor the sleep settings.

I still will disconnect the power adapter overnight while I test how much power is consumed in sleep mode.

Update: nothing has changed, the MacBook "woke up" several times in sleep mode. One time could be clearly tied to a bluetooth device in its proximity. And the battery also lost significant charge overnight, sigh.

I find this highly unsatisfying and disconcerting. I definitely want a full sleep mode, without having to go through dozens of settings that are on by default.
