Smart Keyboard Return Sends Message

So, my brand new Apple Smart Keyboard and iPad Pro 4th Gen fsend my messages when I only want to insert a line break (like a carriage return). I cannot seem to unlearn 30 years of typing habits to hit option every time I want to add new line to a message. My messages are broken up unnecessarily or sent with the wrong personal info because I haven’t changed it yet.

The last entry in this forum about this was back in 2016?!?Has Apple solved this problem yet?

Carriage Return is send, as you’ve found.

Line break is control-return or option-return.

This akin to what Mac Messages does.

Aw, shoot! I am using a Magic Keyboard, not a Smart Keyboard.

There are at least three different “Magic Keyboards” around.

One for iMac M1, one for other Macs and iPads, and one that magnetically attaches to certain models of iPad.

AFAIK, they all work the same here.

Option-Return or Control-Return for Linefeed, otherwise Carriage Return for Send.

Above tested on Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad variant.
