Home Pod Mini for default Apple TV audio is NOT working

So I have tvOs 15 running on a 4th generation AppleTV and two paired HomePod Mini's running homePod os 15.

Both are in the same 'room' within home kit.

Everything is exactly as described in various support documents to get it working. I've tried rebooting both the Apple TV and the Home Pods minis.

I can connect the HomePods temporarily no issues, but adding as the permeant default sound source doesn't work. Internal TV Speakers are the ONLY option provided.

Suggestions?
