Safari Sidebar won't stay open on last used item (reading list or bookmarks)

I use reading list with safari (and to sync pages between my phone and computer) all the time. With the update to safari 15, now when I open the sidebar it defaults to the "collected links", including bookmarks, reading list and any tab groups. I have to click on reading list to open it. If I close the sidebar, and reopen it, it goes back to the menu, and I have to select reading list again (same problem for bookmarks). It won't stay open on the last item selected. This is just obnoxious. Having to constantly reopen the list is less than ideal. Is there any work around to prevent it from doing this? I almost never use bookmarks (my favourites that I need are in the toolbar), and don't imagine using tab groups - so I just want it to stay open on reading list. Thoughts or ideas?
