I accidently attached a file which is too large to send, now the message is stuck on my screen with the message it can’t be saved to the Drafts mailbox. I click OK, but it stays there, I can’t get past it to delete it.
please help! I can’t quit Mail either, or restart the iMac. Thanks

After reviewing your post, it seems like you have an email stuck in Mail because it has an attachment that is too large to send and you cannot delete it. Try booting into safe mode and then try to delete the email and see if the issue persists.
Start up your Mac in safe mode

While in Apple Mail >> top Menu of mail and look for menu " Mailbox " pop down menu appear and Take ALL Accounts OFF Line. Now deleted the offending large email.
Reverse the previous steps to Put ALL Account On Line.
Force-quit Mail: press command-option-escape, select Mail in the list and click Force Quit.
Then restart.
