activation lock

Hi, I went to use my ipad 2 this evening and it came up with activation lock. No idea why!!! When i tried to deactivate it by typing in my apple ID and password it said that my apple ID (which is my email address) could not be used to unlock this ipad!!

The text that appears just above where I should enter my apple ID says 'this iPad is linked to an apple ID. Log in with the apple ID and the password that was used to configure this ipad. w.....@t.....be

This ipad is 10 years old - I have moved country in the meantime and so have changed email address. The one they are partly showing here above is my old one which is no longer active. Despite having updated my apple ID, it will not open this lock.

I now read that I can get apple to unlock it but then they'll wipe everything off it, which is extremely inconvenient.

No idea why this has happened. Has anyone got any suggestions to help me??

Without the Apple ID and Password used to set up the device, you will not be able to defeat Activation Lock which is a theft prevention feature. We cannot help and Apple will not unless you can produce the original receipt clearly showing the serial number. The iPad 2 is an antique and you will be disappointed even if you do get it started as it lacks the components to run current software.
