Functionally, a first generation iPad is obsolete - with no support or available installable Apps from the App Store. If the iPad1 works at all, it will be very limited in its capability to do anything useful.

Online usage implies use of a web browser. An unsupported web-browser is, from perspective of privacy and security, unsafe. This alone, for many, would be reason enough to permanently retire iPad1 through iPad4 and the iPad mini1.

iPad models supporting iOS12 are the oldest models of iPad that still receive security updates and are relatively safe for use online.
