I have an icon on one of my iPads in the status bar that looks kind of like a white ringing handset in a black lozenge (it has two brackets on each side that flash on and off.) The icon does not appear in Apple's list of status bar icons. It does not appear on my other ipad, and my iPhone is not ringing or anything.

I think this icon is to let you know that your iPad is tethered to your iPhone for WiFi calling/call forwarding.
