Music desktop app keeps asking me where my Library is

Hi, ever since I installed Google Drive for Desktop to back up my files, the Music app on my Macbook opens disconnected to my main library, forcing me to do option-click every time I open it and manually choose my Library. How can I fix this?

I think so.

In that case, how would I tell the Apple Music app the new default location of the folder, so that I don't have to manually select it every time?

When you use the option-start-iTunes or Music method to select a library, then close the app, and reopen, it should open the last library that you selected. Hopefully if you move the library folder outside the Google Drive folders and option-start it will work, and then continue to work. If you leave the media where it is the relocated database should still be able to locate the files.

Hi mrmalkovich,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand your Music app is opening to an unexpected page. We'll be happy to help.

Have you tried restarting your Mac? If not, try that, and open Music like you normally would: Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac. If the issue continues, tell us which Mac and macOS we're working with. Does disabling Google Drive resolve the issue with Music?

Best regards.

Apple's music software (Music/iTunes) isn't designed to play nicely with third party cloud sync products, or even their own iCloud Drive. They have a solution in Apple Music or iTunes Match. You may need to take the library, or at least the library database and its supporting files, outside of those folders that are managed with Google Drive. I.e. do the reverse of Make a split library portable - Apple Community.

Hi. I figured it was a problem along those lines. Apple likes to make everything easy until they decide it's not in their interests.

Gonna need a big cup of coffee to make it through this link you provided.
