6 weeks delivery time

I last minute wanted to change my Macbook Pro order. There is no edit order, only cancel and re-create a new order. This has repercussions, the infamous "automated delivery time" applies to new orders. Why is there the tech to create a ton of sku variations, but we can't edit our product? The Macbook Pro wasn't even processed or shipped yet, but I had to cancel and get to the back of the line. The wait time is almost 6 weeks to get the computer now. No amount of phone calls helps, no reasoning, no human resolution is possible, it's the machine determining it, and it doesn't know there was just a slight product change. I made a point to order it the second it became available after the unveiling event and it would've been shipped any day. It's hard enough to decide what to get with the variety of processors and no reviews or last minute research available. There should be some queue number or something attached in case people change their mind and want to modify their orders.
