macOS Monterey Safari Issue

Well, it appears we still have the same problem with Safari with Monterey that we had with Big Sur. It will not allow me to remove tabs, close Safari and keep those same tabs from reappearing once I reopen Safari. Otherwise, the software functions fine. I am at the point of looking to completely removing Safari somehow and reinstalling Monterey as the only option. Would love to hear thoughts on this. Even if I could return Safari to it's default mode that would be sufficient for me. Thank you.

I believe I found it accidentally. I took the tab and dragged it to the right and then hit the 'x' to close it. It also could be a setting in the Preferences and Tabs section. I will have to experiment to see if that is the case. Question closed.
