After upgrade to MacOS Monterey I am unable to Save a new file or use Save As for any file using Word or PowerPoint in Microsoft 365. Saving works fine for Excel.
Specs: Mac Pro 15" 2017. Word/PPt version 16.54. MS Update says I have the latest version. Suggestions please?

Thanks for your reply. After trial and error I singled out the problem to be which of my two external monitors is designated as the Main Display, and which as Extended display. By swapping the original configuration this removed the problem. Just have to search for my desktop icons in another place. Absolutely no idea why this should have any impact on why Word and Ppt should allow a file to be saved or not.

Ensure that you have updated to Monterey 12.0.1 and this version of Office. If that does not resolve the Office saving issue, then contact Microsoft, who will either offer a solution with current software or a forthcoming release.
I had the same problem with you, MS 365 with on an M1 MB Pro and unable to save as. I was skeptical after reading this but it worked.... for some illogical reason haha! thanks a million. This was driving me crazy.
MBP 15" 2019. Monterey. I have the same problem but with Excel 365 and Acrobat Pro DC that won't Save or Save As a new file, both apps are using the latest version. Word and PowerPoint 365 save without a problem.
Sadly, swapping my Main and Extended Display settings did not help.
Solved the issue by doing a force quit for Excel (Which managed to save to to a bkup file I could restore).
Following the Force quit and restore I can now save new files as expect.
Changing my monitor configuration had no effect. I had not problem saving new files any other Office 365 apps.
I suspect Excel got into a bad memory state. (I have latest versions of Office and Monterey on my M1).
It's clearly an issue of Monterey.
After swapping my monitors in preferences, now both are called "MacBook Pro". It's clearly a bug. Pleas Apple fix it.
I bet the system dialog are "shown" outside of the visible part of the screen, because the OS makes a mess with screens and resolutions.
Swapping didn't rerolve for me.

It doesn't seem to only be an issue with Microsoft applications (word, ppt, excel) only. For example in draw.io, I had the same issue. Changing the Main display from my (old) Thunderbolt display to the built-in screen, solved the issue.
I think you would be best served by contacting Microsoft support for this issue. Good luck.
