How can I show the Battery Percentage on my iPone screen?

Phones with Face ID cannot show the battery percentage. You can swipe down from the upper right corner to see the percentage.

Why can't this be shown with facial recognition?
The notch occupies a good chunk of the top of the screen. As a result, the battery percentage cannot be displayed.
