Is Netflix ever going to be supported?

I'm not sure I understand the question. Could you be more specific?

• Netflix, the app, is compatible with the Apple TV device.
• Netflix, the subscription, is not available for billing through your Apple ID if you are a new subscriber. Existing subscribers to Netflix billed through their Apple ID are able to continue their subscription as normal. This is due to Netflix terminating their third party billing contracts and now only offering the service billed through them directly.
• Netflix, on the Apple TV app, is not offered as a channel to subscribe to with Apple TV+ at this time.

Netflix is a standalone app, they have not chosen to integrate into Apple TV channels. But, it still works as an app on your Apple TV. Same difference really as you have access.

Nor would it be. You'd use the Netflix app on your smart TV to access Netflix, just like using the Apple TV app to access Apple TV content.

They've chosen not to integrate. Besides, there isn't anything compelling on Netflix (IMHO) :)
