iPad SMS messages "Not delivered"

I recently upgraded my iPad Pro 12.9 to IOS 15.1. Yesterday morning I started receiving "Not delivered" for every SMS message I tried to send. I successfully sent an SMS message around 4:30 AM. When I tried to send another message around 6:00 AM, I started receiving "Not delivered" for every text message sent. I selected Retry and got same message.

  1. My iPhone 7 Plus, IOS 14.8
  2. I turned off and on my iPad
  3. I did a soft reset of my iPad
  4. I did a restore of my iPad using iTunes
  5. I am able to send iMessage

iPad Pro 12.9-inch, 3rd Gen, Wi-Fi

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you are having trouble with your SMS messages not being delivered on your iPad Pro after the update.


Let's start with this guide first: How to forward SMS/MMS text messages from your iPhone to your iPad, iPod touch or Mac. You'd want to check the section "Set up text message forwarding" just to make sure all settings are correct on both devices. The most important setting to check is Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding on your iPhone. This should resolve your issue with SMS/MMS messages.

Thanks for you post. However the URL link you included is for "Connect and use other storage devices with Mac" and I didn't find any useful information about forwarding SMS/MMS messages.


I verified Text Message Forwarding on my iPhone listed my iPad device. I removed the iPad from Text Message Forwarding, did a soft reset on my iPhone and then added my iPad back. No change. What settings should I look at on the iPad?
