Spaces/Desktops don't work properly (?)

Hi guys,

I've been searching the web and forum, but didn't find anything. When my girlfriend swipes with 4 fingers on the trackpad she get's to another space - but it's simply mirroring the space before. So even if she has 4 spaces - they are all identical at all times. If she has Safari open in the first one, it will automatically be open in the other spaces, with exactly the same tabs, etc. If she then minimizes it in another space, it also minimizes in the first space. This occurs on a MacBook Pro 13", bought in 2020.

Any ideas how to separate the spaces from each other / stop them mirroring each other?

Thanks in advance,

Manuel

Hi Manuel,

Thanks for your patience in awaiting our response. This is definitely an interesting problem, and we're going to do all we can to help you resolve it. When you have a chance, could you please check out the options under "Assign apps to spaces" in the user guide below, and let us know if the apps are set to "All Desktops" or "This Desktop"? If the app is set to "All Desktops", it will open in each one.

Hi MGonzalez89,

Thanks for reaching out to us here in Apple Support Communities! We understand that your girlfriend is experiencing some trouble with her MacBook Pro, and we'd like to help. To clarify, is she swiping left and right with four fingers, and if so, how many different desktops does she currently have set up? Swiping down with four fingers will show her all of the Safari windows that she has open at that time. We have some more details about that here:

Use Multi-Touch gestures on your Mac

If there is only one desktop configuration set up, the trackpad gestures may be behaving as expected.

Let us know what you find! We're here for you.

Take care.

Hi Amanda,

and thanks for your help! We're talking about 4 finger swipes and she has set up 3 different desktops, with only one Safari window open in one of the desktops. Although she has only one window, that window (and everything else) get's automatically moved over to every other of the three different desktops she has open. It seems like something is wrong.

Cheers,

Manuel
