Monterey Incompatibilities

Got a new MacBook Air. There are so many incompatibilities with the new mac OS Monterey, two of my printers don't work, one will not print pdfs, and the latest HP drivers are incompatible. Scanner doesn't work. Still can do everything from my iPad, so not a printer issue. Can I reload Big Sur on my new Air?

One can only reload the version of macOS the computer can installed with as New.

If it came with Monterey - that is the only version it can reload. That is part of the Apple Licence of Use Agreement.

If the computer came with Big Sur preloaded as New - yes if can be reloaded thought - that will be a larger undertaking.

Changing your computer's operating system is likely more work than you want to deal with, since it involves erasing your HD. Better to deal with the issues directly. It is not uncommon for printers and scanners to stop working when a new OS is installed. That means that the printers must have new drivers installed that are compatible with the new OS. You should be able to download them from the print vendor's support site. The scanner will also need to have its software upgraded. This should resolve your problems.
