I received my trade in kit a week before my MacBook is supposed to arrive, but I still need a laptop to use until it gets here. I know it says we have 14 days to send it in. Does that include shipping time or will it count as soon as I turn it in to the shipping company? I don't want to ruin my chances of getting the credit.

You can send in the trade-in later, and (assuming the hardware is in the condition stated) you’ll typically get either the same trade-in value, or maybe a lower payment.
Per Apple: Keep in mind that the estimated trade-in value is valid for 14 days, and we encourage you to send the device to us within this time frame to ensure that you get this value. Recycled devices should be sent back as soon as possible, at a time that’s convenient for you.
