Trouble logging in

After downloading the Catalina update I go to log in. The process bar completes then opens with the island background. Has my profile pic and name on the circle but has a spinning wheel. No matter how long I leave it I never get logged in fully. How can I fix it? I cannot access my music, pics etc

Have you tried starting up your Mac in Safe Mode to see if it can boot up? It may be possible that something in the Login Items may be corrupted ... if it even gets that far.
