I experienced the same issue. I could get the note to open from the lower right corner but not the screenshot from the left. I then changed the right corner function to screenshot and i was able to get the screenshot. The left corner will not open note either.

You can only do a screenshot with the Apple Pencil from the selected corners of the iPad.
Check the revised settings:
Having tested both Apple Pencil and finger gestures, iPadOS 15.2 corner gestures appear to function as expected.
I am able to bring up the quick note using my thumb . I watched YouTube and that person is able to do screenshot using his thumb no pencil needed
Yes, you can open quick note with your finger, but the screenshot in the corner is an Apple Pencil gesture.

this person did not use any apple pencil
i tried on both side it does not work for screenshot but the note can work on both side for me
