If my device got replaced, how do I cover the new device?

If my device got replaced, how do I cover the new device with Apple care? Am I showed to transfer my apple care from original device or can I purchase it now for the replacement device? I can't find the info anywhere!

the replacement device “takes over” what is left of the warranty. Check with Apple about the exact terms re. accidental handling damages if that was the reason for the replacement.
