Is it somehow possible for my wife to automatically share her entire photo library with me? I see that she can share an album via Shared Albums. Is there a way to share the whole library?

You can share a library between users, if you keep the library on an external volume, where you can enable the "Ignore Ownership on this volume" flag. Without this flag you cannot open this library from different user accounts. The external volume has to be prepared as described here:

I would use a copy of the system library for sharing and occasionally replace the copy by an updated version and not share your main system libraries.

No, unfortunately it is not possible via iCloud. I wanted to do this also.
