I have a new MacBook Air. One of my biggest frustrations with Pages is trying to get a simple blank document to open - it requires several steps. I would like to ask Siri to open a blank Pages document for me but she answers that she cannot do that. Is there a work around?

Siri can understand the words, "Open Pages with a blank template" and here is the response:
However, if you were to configure Pages Preferences to default to a blank template, then you could ask Siri to "Open Pages" and Pages would launch and open a new blank document.

Not being a 'Siri fan' isn't a necessary qualification for realizing there some things that require less effort when done without calling on Siri.

Creating the shortcut is not the issue, but getting Siri to recognize that you want to run a shortcut, and Siri actually correctly interpreting what you say are polar opposites. Yesterday, on macOS 12.1, I asked Siri to run a two-word shortcut. It clearly repeated the exact words that I spoke, and then Siri simply gave up without running the shortcut.
I am a native English speaker and spoke very clearly without background noise — the name of that shortcut, and after ten attempts where what I spoke was accurately acknowledged, and failed, I gave up on Siri. That shortcut works without Siri, and Siri ran a different shortcut later, but it is very unreliable.
Thank you. Your response helped me a lot. I live on an island with no Mac support otherwise I would go to an apple store. When I did have access to an Apple advisor years ago and asked for a short cut to open a blank pages he did not give me your short work-around. Now I see that it is very easy to get a new blank document.
The workaround is not to use Siri. Just launch Pages from your Dock and open a new blank template. Life it too short to have Siri consistently get things wrong.
