It sounds as though you are trying to attach a .eml file to an outgoing email via your Virgin Media email account?

Firstly, a .eml file is not a picture file, it is a complete email message, so ignore that "help" you received from Virgin Media as it is nonsensical.

Make sure that the picture file you are trying to attach is a separate stand-alone image file and not embedded in another email that you have received, if it is embedded in another email that you received you must extract the picture from that email first, or simply forward that email on to your intended recipient.

Virgin Media impose a limit of 25Mb for any attachment of any type, so make sure that the picture you are trying to attach is no larger than 25Mb.

As for image types, Virgin Media email permits all the common files such as .JPG, .JPEG, .TIFF. PNG, .GIF and .RAW plus .PDF, .PSD, .EPS and .Ai.

Provided your image is smaller than 25Mb and one of the above free-standing image formats and not embedded in another email message then you simply drag and drop the image onto a blank area of your composed email.

There is also the option to click on the "Attachments" button in the Virgin Media web mail browser and then select the image file that you want to add.

You’ve tried including a path to a file on your Mac (circled), which is not going to work. We don’t have access to your desktop.

Whatever you’re doing to add an image here might be related to the issues attaching an image via the Virgin Mail webmail interface. (Shown above is the iPad prompt of the image. On recent macOS, scroll all the way to the bottom of the left-column in the file chooser dialog, and select Photos, and pick your photo, if the image is stored in your Photos app as is usual.)

It’s also possible that locally-installed add-on anti-malware or ad-blockers or add-on cleaning apps are getting in the way.

And it’s possible to use the Mac Mail app to access Virgin Media mail, without using the web app. Here are the Irish directions:

The term “Attachments” applies to any permitted file type that you want to attach to your email.

In the text you have added above there is a file named “Screenshot 2022-01-14 at 17.42.44.png that is sitting on your mac desktop and if you selected that file when the attachments menu was opened in Virgin Media’s compose email page then that screenshot (.png) image would be attached to your email ready for sending.

You can search anywhere in your mac for images to add, you are not necessarily restricted to only searching your desktop but if you find it easier then copy the desired picture to your desktop before composing the email and then when you click the “Attachments” button in Virgin Media mail it will show you all allowable image files currently on your desktop, select that desired image from the list presented.

If you are asking “Where is the Attachments button in the Virgin Media compose email page?” I’m afraid I can’t answer that, I gave up with Virgin Media in the UK years ago because of over-charging issues and I’m no longer familiar with their web-mail service, or the layout of their user interface for the web-mail service, you would need to study the menus available when you are working in that on-line compose mail page, sorry I couldn’t be more helpful with that aspect.

Maybe there is another Apple community contributor here with a current Virgin Media account that can add a screenshot of the Virgin Media web-mail compose mail page and point out where the Attachments menu is located?

Who is your email provider? What email program are you using? Most providers and applications will let you send things like .png and JPEG files.
