Drum Machine Designer No Sound!

Hello, I've recently experienced some very odd behavior from Drum Machine Designer where the sound will completely cut out anywhere from 1 - 5 minutes after opening a session and will not come back. All the samples are still there when I open DMD and they are contained in the samples folder that is created within the project folder, but they just won't play. This is happening across the board on all the sessions I open.

Any help would be very much appreciated. I am running Logic Pro 10.5.1 on Mojave 10.14.6.

Thank you in advance,

Daniel

Thanks for the details, Daniel.

You could try trashing Logic's preferences (i.e. the "com.apple.logic10.plist" file) from the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder. To access this folder (which is normally hidden) you may click anywhere on desktop to switch focus to Finder, then press and hold "Option" key > click "Go" at the menu bar on top of the screen > select "Library" (or use this key command [Shift+Command+G] and type or copy-paste "~/Library/Preferences" in the window that opens).

More info on that here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT200260 (under "Delete Logic Pro Preferences"). That's a basic troubleshooting guide for the Logic Pro app.

Other software instruments are behaving completely normally.

A visual would not really be useful in this case so I'll try to spell it out better.

  1. I open a Logic project that uses DMD and everything is playing fine.
  2. I click on the DMD track and play the samples live with my midi keyboard - everything still works fine.
  3. I try to record a pass of midi with the DMD kit and at some point, the sound just drops out.
  4. I tried your buffer size suggestion and after applying the DMD kit played normally again for about 30 seconds then shut off.
  5. Note that this is happening across all projects with DMD being used, not just one.

Is it at all possible this is a bug in Logic that got fixed in 10.6? I would think they would have gotten to something like this in the 10.5.1 update unless it is extremely rare.

Thanks for the help and any suggestions you might have.

After troubleshooting with tech support, this is what ended up fixing the problem (make sure you take screenshots of all your preferences & save any custom key commands before doing this):

Clearing Preferences:

  1. Quite all apps
  2. Open finder
  3. Hit “Go” in menu bar, hold down option and select library
  4. Go inside “Caches” and move everything to trash
  5. Go inside “Preferences” and move the two Logic preference files to trash
  6. Go inside “Saved Application State” and move all of them to trash
  7. restart computer
  8. empty trash

What about other software instruments, do they behave normally and produce sounds?

I'd do the following: Logic Pro X > Preferences > Audio > "Devices" tab: change your output device or a setting (say, buffer size) and then click "Apply", revert back to previous device / setting, click "Apply" again. On top of that, maybe reboot the Mac, as well.

If this doesn't help, please get back with a more detailed description of your issue. Also, attach a visual, it's always better than just a paragraph or two of text.
