Some users have had problem with skipping macOS version. Not Mojave was the last version to run 32 bit apps. Thus, you will need to update many apps


You also need an Apple SSD installed to upgrade to Monterey since the upgrade includes a firmware update that is done as part of the Monterey upgrade and the installer looks for an internal Apple SSD. If not present the upgrade terminates.
