I have two Macbook Pros 13", one is old, the other brand new. I wish to continue to back up the new one to Cloud but not the old one. How do I do this? Thanks in advance for advice.

iCloud does not provide computer backup. iCloud provides data synchronization across devices logged into iCloud. Disable iCloud on the old computer if you do not want to synchronize data between it and your new computer.

Thank you very much for your reply. This indeed answers the more fundamental question as to what Cloud is and as such resolves my issue.
