where is my screen shot in Monterrey?

I just upgraded to Monterrey, and I can't find where it is saving my screenshots. They are not on the desktop like in operating systems of old. They are not in my "Screenshots" folder on Dropbox, where I set them up to go under Big Sur. A search for "screen shot" produces only the spinning grey wheel of death that has said "loading" for the last 20 minutes. Any ideas?

you can use the keyboard shortcut "command-shift-5" to bring up the recording controls. then click on "options" and check which locations the screenshots are being saved to.

See the following from Take a screenshot on your Mac - Apple Support

By default, screenshots save to your desktop with the name ”Screen Shot [date] at [time].png.”

In macOS Mojave or later, you can change the default location of saved screenshots from the Options menu in the Screenshot app. You can also drag the thumbnail to a folder or document.

Also, if you just upgraded, the search issue may be related to Spotlight search still indexing.
