Optimal tv4k 2021 Settings?

One of the few network cable show we watch is on CBS through the DirectTV Stream app on AppleTV 4K (2021.) We are viewing on a Samsung UN65AU8000BXZA. I have the ATV set to Match frame rate and content at 4K SDR. The picture is terrible! I played with settings a bit and found the picture became clearer by setting ATV to 1080p SDR (Playing back the recording of the episode.) This seems to be an even greater problem after installing HDMI 2.1 cables this past week.

So, I'm open to help about how to generally set the ATV for use with this setup and whether I need to manually change settings in order to see the best picture on some programming.

The picture is terrible!

Please describe what is so terrible about it. We don’t know what you see, so we rely on your description.

You may want to try to get the dedicated CBS app and sign in with your TV provider credentials (if supported). Get the content straight from the source.

You may want to examine the Settings for the DirectTV Stream app, as it is said to have video quality options (good|better|best).

The image is very soft, with aberrations in the shadows and darks. It's nowhere near to an "HD" quality. I have tried the CBS app but I believe content is relayed at the same quality level as the DTV Stream app.

If other apps and services have different (better) video quality, then contact DirectTV/AT&T about your issue, as they are the ones that send you the low quality stream.
