Sometimes I select a contact and the name is in pink at the top of the message. It will allow me to type a message, but there is no send button when the name is pink. Why is that and how do I fix it?

That’s what I am asking. I don’t know why it’s pink. It’s done it with other messages as well. Not just this guy. Generally my text on my phone appear on my messages on the MacBook Air too. Except for a few people. Their messages are in my iPhone but not the MacBook. I am using the same phone number I use on my phone. These are the people who have a pink background behind their name in the message app on the MacBook. It will allow me to type the message but there is no send button.

Oh, OK, from your response, I can surmise the following:

  • You own an iPhone.
  • You are attempting to send the message(s) to a telephone number.

So based on that, I will assume the telephone number is not associated with an iPhone (because if it were, the addressee would be blue indicating an iMessage).

So presumably you're attempting to send an SMS text message, which a Mac cannot do, but it can hand off to an iPhone to perform. Be certain, therefore, you have set this up correctly.
