Hi,

One could use a network connection (Ethernet, or possibly wireless). For example, FTP can bridge different operating system generations, but should be used locally only.

It is possible to connect a Power Mac G4 to the Internet, but at least Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger would be needed, since earlier web browsers do not work with modern web pages (and even a browser like TenFourFox for 10.4 will have limited capabilities).

It would help if you could post the exact Power Mac G4 and MacBook Pro models/years.

Also, the exact operating system versions for both models.

Hi,

Thank you for the information.

>If I had a monitor for the G4 things would be easy.

Maybe you could borrow an old VGA monitor. Even some television sets have a VGA connector.

Another way could be to remove the internal hard drive. The drive could then be connected to a universal drive adapter. One example would be https://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/U3NV2SPATA/ (you may be able to find similar adapters locally). It should then be possible to read data via a modern Mac (or even a PC, provided that an appropriate Mac-disk utility is used).

The G4 Mac has a FireWire port, but a connection to a more modern Mac would require a chain of adapters via Thunderbolt. This would be experimental. It may or may not work. An intermediate Mac may be needed as well.
