my phone froze but I can’t go to any other apps and it doesn’t let me turn off what can I do?

I'm having the same problem. It started when I opened the clock app. The clock app just showed a dark screen. At first I would be able to open the app but nothing would happen so I closed it. I went to the app store to see if there was an update. No update but I clicked open from the app store and it froze my phone. I can swipe up to the control screen, swipe down for the notifications, from there, I can swipe left to get the shortcuts screen and swipe in the other direction for the camera. Holding the home button will start Siri. On any of the other screens I can swipe to, no other apps can be opened, not even settings. Siri won't open anything for me either. The phone won't shut down by holding the power button. I have an iPhone 8 with software version iOS 14.8.1

The steps to shut the phone off did work. I attempted to open the clock app which caused the problem and the app seems to be working fine again.
