Desktop icon for Mac hard disk seems to have duplicated itself. The duplicated disk was labeled "Macintosh HD – Data". As far as I could tell it was identical. I dragged to the trash and selected empty trash and it's been deleting the million plus files since then. I'mm startingbto worry that I should not have begun the process of deleting this disk and files. Anyone have information on this? Thank you.

Follow these steps to check if you have a duplicate Data volume. The real (legitimate) Data volume shouldn't appear on your desktop.
I'Ve deleted "Macintosh HD - Data", as I thought it was a duplicate that had somehow mysteriously appeared own the desktop today. I've never seen this before. Have I deleted files or data that I should not have?
Perfectly normal. "Macintosh HD-Data" is your data. "Macintosh HD" is the system.
Macintosh HD appears to be duplicated
