Target Display Use

Hi, I have a 2020 Mac Air and a 2011 iMac, am I able to use the iMac as a target display with the right cords?

Unfortunately, no since Target Display Mode is not supported by Mac computers newer than 2019 or using macOS Catalina or newer. See: Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support

You can use the software solution, however if you want the most reliable solution simply buy an external display which is much more cost effective than investing in more software. You can buy external displays for about $100 which is:

• Simple to setup.
• Far more reliable than a software solution.
• Dead reliable.

Not as a hardware monitor, there are some software solutions like Apple's Airplay (If they both have Monterey) and Duet.
