I have just converted a video to my mac on quicktime player. I want to use imovie to edit the movie. How do I move it from quicktime player to imovie

I have just converted a video to my mac using Elgato video capture. The result is great. However , the only choice to place the file is in QuickTimePlayer. I want to file it in imovie so that I can edit the movie. Does anyone know how to move the file from Quicktime to imovie. There doesnt appear to be an option in the drop down menues.

Mac mini, macOS 10.15

Export the footage to your desktop and from there drag it into iMovie.
