Photos - Faces

I updated my Mac desktop to Monetery four days ago. I just added some old family photos to Photos. The system does give the option to name a person. I selected Get info and selected Add a Face. But, it only allows one person to be named. And, it does not necessarily center on the person.

Does anyone have information for me?

Thanks.

The interface is understandably opaque! Once you have the 'Get Info' panel, and select 'Add a Face', a circle appears on screen which you are expected to relocate and resize over the person's face.

The 'move' is achieved by grabbing the circle and moving it where you want, and the resize is achieved by selecting the little circle on the right. Once you've done this, choose 'Click to Name' and start typing a person's name - it will select from your Contacts app (if you choose to use it) and you can then assign a name. If you've got no-one in your Contacts application, it's best to add people there first.

Sometimes it is simply not possible to drag a manually added faces circle and adjust the circle around the face. It may appear to be stuck in the center. And if you try to add an additional circle, you will create a stack of circles on top of each other. When this happens, click somewhere outside the circle into the image background. This will move the focus from the Info panel back to the image. Now you can move the circle. Then enter a name. Does this work for you?

It is not possible to move or remove the automatically detected faces circles at all, only the additional faces circles you added manually. The circles you can move will be marked with an "x".

Also, I would wait a few days before starting to name the faces on newly imported photos. Give Photos time to scan the new photos for faces. This might save you some work. To see, which photos have already been scanned for faces, enable the checkmark "Show Faces Names" in the "View" menu. The you will be seeing circles around all detected faces.
