Long pause before next song is playable

When I play a song in Apple Music there is a very long pause before it starts.

• This happens everywhere except for at home

• When I swipe from the top right down it reveals a little window that indicated that the last song is still playing when in fact it is not.

• I am using an iPad (6th gen) with iOS 15.4 but it did on previous versions of the iOS as well

• I have over 11GB available capacity

• I use this iPad only for playing backing tracks at gigs so smooth playback is detrimental to my business

• This occurs not only from playback through Apple Music but also through an app called OnSong. OnSong reports no issues with their app in this regard and refers me to Apple

• This occurs through Apple Music playback as well as playback through other apps

• No other apps need to be running other than Apple Music to reproduce this problem

• It occurs whether connected to a network or not

Greetings blueanon,

You posted a lot of great info already. Kudos on that! To clarify, does the music exhibit the same issue whether it is downloaded or streaming music you are attempting to play?

If you have not tried already, Restart your iPad. Does this help to resolve the issue? Often this simple step will refresh the apps and software on the device to solve numerous problems you may encounter.

You mentioned that the device is experiencing the problem everywhere except for at home. When this happens, are you connected to Wi-Fi, cellular data, or does it happen with both?

Once more information is posted, others in the Apple Support Communities may start to engage and offer assistance.

Cheers!

Just spent a lot of time with Apple Tech on this. There are a couple of things that help;

1) The first is to download the music so you're not streaming mission critical songs (I use mine for backing tracks in a live setting).

2) Second ( if you're streaming the songs) is to put a SIM card in your iPad and use that for data connection. The reasoning is that a SIM card data connection is more reliable than using the public WiFi.

In my case, my iPad doesn't have a SIM tray so I connect to my iPhone as a personal hot spot and use it's data connection.

I ran a test during a show with this and it worked fine for about an hour. My phone's data connection was pretty bad in the venue `I was in and eventually the lag kicked in. Still, it was significantly better and I got through the show with minimal disruption.

I plan to go through my 300+ song backing track library and download them all so I can do show off line.

Same problem for me. Ever since iOS 15.4 my music loaded on my iPhone (my CDs converted into mp3 and added to phone) don’t play continuously. There are random pauses for 12 seconds between some tracks, or when you go to load the first track to listen to an album it won’t start playing for 12 seconds. Problem exists in iOS 15.4.1 too.
