iPad 9th generation Apple Pencil 1st generation not working

Hello. My sibling bought a brand new Apple Pencil (1st gen) today and it keeps disconnecting and connecting to their iPad (9th gen) (which is also new). We thought it could be a problem with Bluetooth but our headphones connect just fine. We’ve tried forgetting the pencil from the device and reconnecting and it still occurs. The same with turning Bluetooth on and off and restarting the device. What else can we do?

Try charging up the Pencil. It may need to be charged up.
