Apple Watch clock face issues

When my watch first comes on it will no longer allow me to swipe the notification panel down to see notifications or swipe the settings & functions up from the bottom. However, I can hit one of the side buttons and go through apps and everything just fine with the touchscreen. It just won’t work on the clock face when it comes on. It was working fine up until now and I have only had it for one week. what can I do about this and is it serious?

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

If that doesn't help, the next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup just created. This should result in no loss of data. It deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system.
