I have an old Apple TV and remote, can I purchase the new Apple TV remote on its own?

You can, but the new Siri Remote is compatible with the Apple TV HD and the two generations of the Apple TV 4K. If you have an older Apple TV - and you didn't specify which model you have - it will not be compatible.

The compatibility list with this remote is:

  • Apple TV 4K (2nd generation)
  • Apple TV 4K (1st generation)
  • Apple TV HD

The older Apple Remote is compatible with

  • Apple TV (3rd generation)
  • Apple TV (2nd generation)
