I have macOS Big Sur 11.6.2 and I am having trouble downloading macOS Big Sur 11.6.2. It gets stuck on preparing download.
iMac 21.5″, macOS 11.6
Try running this command in the Terminal…
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 11.6.2
The current version of Big Sur is 11.6.5 so if you want the current version change 11.6.2 to 11.6.5.
Terminal is the "command prompt'" of the mac. You can find this in your launchpad or type terminal in spotlight.
Copy and paste the line in the terminal and press return
With this command you will tell the computer to fetch the full installer of version 11.6.5
And with that you can install it without getting stuk at preparing I hope
Thanks to dialabrain and WheelieNick I was able to install Big Sur 11.6.5. It took about an hour and a half for everything. I copied dialabrain's command on the Terminal that WheelieNick helped me to find. It was on my launchpad. I never used it before now. I didn't know it even existed. Thanks to you both for your help. I wanted to mark "solved" to both of your posts, but the option disappeared for WheelieNick. Sorry. Rowland32

then paste it into the Terminal, press Return.
I made a mistake on my question above. I meant that I was having problems downloading update macOS Big Sur 11.6.5. It gets stuck at the preparing level.
I have no idea where or what the Terminal software update fetch full installer is. How do I get to this?
