iPad is asking for Apple ID that was used to set it up

I have a lock code on my iPad when I put that in it opens however it’s asking me for my id and password that was used to set iPad up it have never done that before why is this happening I can’t go to settings Home Screen nothing

Had you updated the iOS? Did you attempt to restore the device that it is asking for the Apple ID and password? It sounds like you have encountered Activation Lock. You will need to enter your Apple ID and password to get past that. How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support
