MACBOOK AIR missing Sun night...

My MACBOOK AIR goes missing Sunday night, and i get a location showing down town toronto at 4am --- i rush down to the restaurant/ bar area, and search on and off all day.... i did put the lock on it around 8am. After finally sleeping I wake up and see the MAC BOOK AIR showing up on the Find My app.... as being two doors north of my house. I knocked on their door, and the strange man living there was evasive but insistent that it's not there. The cops won't come for this type of thing. Does this ring a bell for anyone? The location for the MAC AIR isn't showing up on FInd My app when i look on my ancient device or desktop pc, just the iphone 7. so confused -- is there another way of finding this thing -- i think i read about getting help from the MAC community....HELP!
