Hi - is it possibel they are jpeg 2000.
There is a free online converter here if you don't have too many?
Or is it possible your scanner software can convert them, since it obviously knows them.
EDITED TO ADD:
OK - preview can open and save jpeg 2000 files, so you can use preview to covert them.
Select them all - open in preview, then select them all in preview and choose export.

When I scanned pictures from my printer/scanner to my computer, it saved them that way. It's an option but I didn't choose that option. Unfortunately I don't have the photos anymore so can't rescan them. I appreciate your trying to help me. I'll keep trying to figure it out.
You are a genius! It worked! I was always able to see them myself, but when I sent a thumb drive of the pictures to my sister, she couldn't read them. Now she will be able to. Thank you so much!!!
Try just deleting the 2 off the end.
What app saved them as jpeg2?
Not sure, but I'll try that! Thanks!
Well, that doesn't work. Any other ideas?
Not without knowing how you got jpg2. TBH I've never seen jpg2 before.
can you open them with preview?
Welcome - thanks for the feedback.
