missing "icon and text" in the toolbar in finder window

i just update from big sur to monterey and notice the wierd issue.

I want to show "icon and text" in the toolbar in finder window. however, i

found it is missing in the right click menu and also missing in the

left corner of "customize toolbar" window.

MacBook Pro (2020 and later)

already with macOS 12.3.1. do not want to reinstall os though.

sounds like third party interferences...


Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/Anti-Virus/VPN


all known to cause issues on the macOS



This is painless option to refresh the macOS

if no resolve try reinstalling the macOS on top of your existing macOS

Hold the Control key and click in the tool bar area...(?)








Have you tried rebooting more than once since upgrading?


Did you try relaunching the Finder.. >Force quit>Finder>Relaunch


did you try a safeboot and test...

Download and run this app so we can find more information about your installation.

It shows what is launched and other information and is very useful in finding causes of problems. After you first launch the app make sure you check Enable full disk access in the box in lower left.



After running the app use the app's Share feature “Copy” that pastes to clipboard. Then paste it in the text box for a reply in this forum click on the addition text icon. This is because the normal reply text box limits how much you can type.
