Stuck at ‘Less than a minute remaining’ when re-installing Big Sur via Recovery. Over 300GB empty space on 1RB HDD. How can I get out of this situation, please? Have several very recent backups, plus a Big Sur USB installer. Really don’t know where to go on this one!

If you are stuck
Often times just forcing a shut down and rebooting— you find you are good to go.
force quit a shutdown by holding the power button/TouchID for ~6-10 sec.
Force Shut down your Mac.
Log out, sleep, wake, restart or shut down your Mac
