Unwanted Change to How Emails Behave

Hi All.

Just recently Mail on my MacBook Pro wouldn't connect to my gmail account. My gmail password would not recognise. I eventually managed to resolve this by logging into my gmail account and changing the setting for less trusted apps to 'Trust'. I then deleted my account from Mail and recreated it using the Other Mail Account Option. Since doing this I have an undesired mail behaviour that never occurred previously.

I access my gmail on both my MacBook and primarily My iPhone using Apples Mail app. I used to be able keep selected different emails in the Inbox on both devices and delete those not wanted on either device.

Now if I delete an email from the Inbox on my MacBook it also disappears from the Inbox on my phone and vice versa. How do I stop this happening? I've spent countless hours trying to resolve this issue without success and I'm now at my wits end!

Help will be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks.

John.

When the Google Mail as reconfigured, was it changed to IMAP ?

If Yes, IMAP Protocol will reflect the Server Side back to Apple Mail. It should and appears be syncing across all devices using the Goole Mail Account.

Example Only. I use iCloud as my Mail Server across 3 Apple Computers and one iPhone. All using the same Apple ID and Same everything.

iCloud uses the IMAP Protocol and when I delete something, inbox, deleted messages, Archive etc. all the changes on one device gets synced and reflects those changes to all devices.

That is how Apple iCloud IMAP works.

Thanks P. Phillips. You got me on the right track :)

Had to delete my gmail account from the mail app on MacBook. Logged into my gmail account via Safari and disabled the imap option. Back to the mail app to create a new account and picked the Other Mail Account option. From the drop down I chose the Mail option. I then manually configured my gmail account as a pop account for incoming mail.
