apple mail 16.0 is making me nutz - very slow launching

I've seen several posts here about others having a 40+ second wait for Apple Mail to launch. So very irritating (after buying the fastest laptop ever made and an m1 iMac ). The problem is not just related to apple silicon (which I think is great) as I have the same problem with a slightly older MBP.

I've tried all the usual stuff...archived all emails prior to this year, disabling all but one email account (trying each of my 5 accounts individually and alone), shutting off all extensions and add-on features (like msg filer, and letter opener), tried running in rosetta and without.

So...has anyone figured this out? I downloaded a copy of Outlook and it works just fine...very snappy and no delays whatever. I haven't figured out yet how I would deal with a 3P email client in terms of how it would play nice or not with multiple Macs and iOS devices, but I guess I will have to. apple mail is still perfect on my iPhone and iPads, BTW.

Do you have a 3P mail client you would advise I try? I've always been very happy with apple mail and probably should just cool my jets till the new OS is released but that's at least 4 months off and I'm getting stressed by this long delay on new fast Macs...

Any advice welcome...

thanks

You state an alternative mail client has no issue... is this a "mail client" issue or a "mail provider" issue?

This points to your third party app— never heard of it before however

if in doubt search the developers website or contact: Support/Help/FAQ/Known issues/compatibility/Updates

For Macs Mail.app if you have issues with a single account the go to way to sort issues is delete the account and add it back in.

Same problem with me since update to macOS 12.4

Startup of Mail 16.0 takes up to 30 seconds.

I have already

  • rebuilt all the mailboxes,
  • deleted the Mail folder in the Library,
  • removed and after non-succesful tries re-added one account after the other,
  • deleted all big emails,
  • deactivated the preview of the mails
  • took mailbox by mailbox offline,
  • removed all intelligent mailboxes
  • emptied the favourites....

Nothing did help.

Tried Spark and Thunderbird and they don't habe the problem with the same mailboxes.

Would be grad if I could solve this as I love to work with Apple mail. :(
