Money disappeared from my apple gift card balance

Has anyone else had money drained from their apple account that doesn't show at all as a transaction? I had $50.23 drained from a gift card amount that I had on file in apple. I know I'm not the only one. I had uploaded a $60 gift card to my apple account from Christmas and the balance was $54.10. I went in to update a couple of my free apps and watched as my account was drained of $50.23 right before my eyes. There is no purchase transaction history that accounts for the money that was stolen. I believe that I was a victim of a scam (clever and effective one I might add) and am hoping there are others out there who can attest to this happening to them as well. Anyone?
