Poor Sound Quaility using any external Mics on Macbook

I have a Macbook Pro running the latest OS and whenever I connect an external mic it always sounds robotic. Sometimes I can unplug the mic and plug it back in and it will work fine for a few minutes then adjust to a bad sound quality. I use the Caldigit TS3 docking station to connect everything and thought it was the docking station. I tried directly connecting the mics to the mac and I still get the same issue.

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities Jblacksten,

We appreciate you reaching out and are here to help.

We would like to ask you a couple of questions in order to get a better understanding. First, has the MacBook Pro and or docking station suffered any liquid or physical damage? Also, have you updated the firmware of the docking station and external mic? Second, what type of external mic are you using (Bluetooth or Wired)? Is it Apple branded? Finally, have you connected the external mic to another device? If so, does the issues still remain?

While you gather that information, check out this link on using different Mic Modes to see if that might help resolve the issue. Please keep in mind you can only see these options when you’re in an app that supports Mic Modes: Use Mic Modes on your Mac - Apple Support

We thank you for your answers, they will help guide us to the next troubleshooting step.

Kindest regards!
